Sheffield United bring back Kalvin Phillips on season-long loan
Sheffield United have re-signed Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips on a season-long loan as the England international looks to revive his career at Bramall Lane.
The 30-year-old initially joined the Blades in February but made just three appearances before suffering a knee injury that brought his spell to an early end.
Phillips moved to Manchester City from Leeds United for a reported £45 million in 2022 and was part of the squad that won the historic treble in 2023.
However, the midfielder has struggled to establish himself as a regular at the Etihad Stadium and will now return to Sheffield United in an attempt to regain his fitness and form.
Phillips said the move was exactly what he wanted after his previous spell was disrupted by injury.
“This was the move I wanted,” Phillips told the club’s website.
“My time was spoiled by my last game and the injury after that, so I’m here to put that right.
The midfielder also spoke positively about returning to the club’s training base at Shirecliffe and is eager to get back on the pitch.
Phillips will now hope to put his injury troubles behind him and play a key role for Sheffield United throughout the upcoming season.
